Every time I do a workshop or a live demo I am asked about my painting set up.
So I’ve put together my top tools list for you.
I’ve included links to where you can get them. Some of the links are affiliate links, some not, but all are things that I actually use myself (see the photo below) and feel excited enough about to share with you.
My Painting set up
Ikea trolley – FORHOJA kitchen trolley, Only €100 and pretty much fits all my day to day stuff, I have three Ikea boxes on the bottom shelf and an Ikea utensil tray on the top shelf for additional storage tidy up. There are also two drawers to keep my mirror and other everyday used items. I hang a paper bag off one side to use as a bin and keep my brushes in plastic Ikea glasses attached to the other side.
Easel – This is the one I use. Actually, I have a couple of these and recently took a notion to paint one yellow! I also hang my kitchen roll off the easel for ease of use.
Ipad holder – Very sturdy and flexible iPad holder. Fits any size iPad.
iPhone holder – This is a new purchase. It’s a hands-free attachment that I clip to the trolley. It simply holds the phone up so I can answer calls or play music or podcasts without me getting paint all over it or constantly putting it down and losing it!
Somewhere to sit – essential!
Gadgets and extra goodies
Grey scale finder – a good tool for helping you to see tonal value
Color wheel – a very useful tool
Twin Dippers – for both brush cleaner, medium and water
Mahl stick – useful to lean on for making a straight or delicate mark. Mine is handed down and is about 40 years old
Large handheld Mirror – honestly would not be without this
Viewfinder – you can make one from cardboard but I love this one
Tabletop easel with storage – great space saver
