Drawing Drama

Drawing room drama 80x100cm €3,200

This is the first painting from Castle Leslie in Co. Monaghan. More about that later.

Summer Studio

I’ve moved to a temporary studio space for the summer. The move has it’s advantages. I get to keep all my supplies around me in one place and it frees up space elsewhere in the house that frankly was full of frames and easels and whatnot. But the move also has it’s disadvantages. Not least that it has messed with my head a little and it’s taking me a while to find my mojo in the new space.

Another disadvantage is that when I paint in the old space, which was in my kitchen, there was more room to get back from the painting and that I would say is the biggest problem.

It doesn’t work to be on top of the easel. I’m trying out different things to see if I can get around this problem. One of them is taking a photo of the painting and flipping it, another, looking at it in a hairdressers mirror.

In any case somebody thought I might be lonely in the new studio and came found me. Not sure the room is big enough for Maggie’s bed so that may be the ultimate deal beaker on using this room. I’ll keep you posted.

  • I feel for you. I’m currently setting up a studio/gallery and I’m scared to move my current work space, and go through what you’re experiencing, but it has to happen this week. I think for now I’m just going to take it down piece by piece and move it exactly the way it is now. The light will change from west to south, which I know is going to be a challenge, but I paint mostly in the middle of the night anyway.

I know what you mean about stepping back but taking photos always works for me. I can’t believe what pops out.

I think Maggie would be happy with an old towel as long as she could be near you.

  • Think I put this in the wrong place, so here it is again.
