Island view 120x150cm

Island View

This is the largest painting that I’ve done to date. It measures 5ft x 4ft or 150 x 120cm in new money!

To the finish

When the canvas arrived I was a little daunted by the sheer size of the canvas but once started I really enjoyed painting this big. In fact, bar some cliff jumping into the sea, it was possibly the best fun I’ve had all summer.

The name “Island View” comes from my Mum’s family home in Dalkey . It was sold before I was ever old enough to visit but this is how I imagine the front drawing room looked. It had a large bay window, something like this one, overlooking the sea.

Here’s some photos that follow the progression of the painting through to completion.

Island view will be available for sale at the doorway gallery as part of my solo show in September.

  • It is lovely to picture this one so large. Thanks too for the step by step process. So fascinating. I love the chairs with the heart shaped backs (one of my favorite shapes) and so subtly worked in here, to make the painting sing. Superb. It certainly makes me feel over-the-moon happy.
