My mum’s an artist, I’m sure i’ve mentioned that before. She has worked mostly in oil, watercolour and as a Sculptor. I came across this image of sculpting tools recently on a great little tumblr blog called brown dress with white spots.

When I saw them it triggered a kind of sensory memory for me. I could almost feel them in my hand. The chalky feel of the dry powdery clay. The way the wire cuts through the wet clay like a wire cutter through cheese and you just want to find a bit of clay to play with.

  • Handsome painting!!! And your photo of the tools brought back good memories for me, too, of years ago when I gathered a bunch of friends and we made dozens of sets of hand-cut, hand-carved runes out of red clay. Thanks for the memories!
