an eye opening visit to the national art gallery

Not surprising that the daughter of an Irish artist would have spent a fair amount of time in the National Art Gallery of Ireland but in fact I’ve never taken a tour. Until Friday that is.

Some friends from my painting class and I took a privately arranged tour/lecture/trip through the ages with Alistair McBride from Culture Capital.ie. (The only kind of capitalist we truck with any more) A fascinating hour and a half later we didn’t want him to stop and probably wouldn’t have let him but that our stomachs won the argument.

Here’s Alistair is full flight

My current favourite painting from the gallery and one of it’s gems. A dark and moody rembrandt with dramatic almost theatrical lighting that later inspired turner.

  • Roisin,

Eileen Gray would be proud. Love the atmosphere you have created with this piece. I’m envisioning an artist’s study, where one just got up from the table, vintage wood floors creaking, to the book-shelved collections graced with the Masters. Well done.

  • If Eileen Gray were alive today, I believe she would be smiling.
Love the atmosphere you have created with this piece. I envision myself getting up from the table, vintage wood floors creaking, to the wall of book-shelved collections of the Masters seeking their wisdom while contemplating my next painting.
    Well done, Roisin.

    • Hi Marilyn, Eileen Gray was born in enniscorthy only about an hour or so from where I live! I have just finished a great book called the glass room that is staged around a corbusier type house and it think that modernist aesthetic has seeped into my painting. Nice to here from you. I love your work in all it’s expressions. Róisín
