We are en route back across the country about now so I’ll be back in the saddle properly when I post next on Monday!

This painting is one of my favourites from the Killarney Show, and one that I haven’t blogged. It’s hanging in the gallery at the moment.

the dressing room & the west coast of Clare

“Sorrow and sadness, bitterness, grief
Memories I have of you, won’t leave me in peace
My mind is running back, to the west coast of Clare
Thinking of you, the times we had there

I walked to Spanish Point, I knew I’d find you there
I stood on the white strand, and you were everywhere”

The west coast of Clare – Planxty

I stood on White Strand last night and this song was filling my head. Click on the link under the heading sountrack to my life…well to today anyway! It’s in the sidebar on the right.

white strand

This is White Strand but this photo dosn’t do it justice. It’s all sunshine and happiness.

Don’t get me wrong, sunshine and happiness is great, but it doesn’t show it’s other 99 personalities.

Yesterday evening I could see the skeltons of ruined houses peeking out from the mist across the bay and the day before I couldn’t hear myself think over the roar of the wind. (possibly a good thing!)

But it has to be said I’ve fallen in love with White Strand and wish I could stay another year to meet all her personalities. I’ve been coming up with excuses to go there everyday - It’s quieter than Lahinch strand, it’s perfect for walking the dog, it has more beach at high tide… but of course it’s not about practical reasons at all, it’s simply a place that feeds the soul and calms me.

I did bring my paints with me but left all my canvases and bords behind me in Dublin (genius!). I did get as far as the art supplies shop in Ennis but it was closed (half day wednesday – I didn’t think anywhere still did that. My first thought was ”how quaint, how ‘slow-living’ and healthy is that”. My second was “bugger that, how irritating”).  Maybe its a good thing. I am itching to paint and can’t. Lets hope the break from practice will do me good.

I haven’t been blogging but I have been checking in from time to time. Thank you to friends who have left comments or emailed. I haven’t replied but will do on my return next week .

The Dressing Room

No idea if this is a dressing room or not but it could be right? This is the painting that I talked about last week that reminded me of room that I was in on a visit to Killruddery House when I was a child.
