Plum Pretty – Blow the dust off your trumpet

Hard to imagine there is no black used in this painting isn’t it.

Blow the dust off your trumpet Orchestra takes over Huston Station

Last year my Mum Patrica, took her dusty violin off the wall after many years (lets not be rude here, but many years!), to become part of the “blow the dust off your trumpet” orchestra. The orchestra invited seniors, who in some cases had not played their instrument for 50 years, to pick it up again. It was put together as part of the Bealtaine Festival (celebrating creativity in older people) with some guidance from the RTE symphonic orchastra. They also preformed a concert in the national concert hall at Christmas time.   It really does show you that there’s nothing stopping us doing anything . The opportunities are always out there.

Here they are launching this years Bealtaine Festival at Huston Station last week. Aren’t they amazing?

camelia – bank holiday break

Something new. I thought I’d try my hand with an ultra dark background here. It’s a neutral black created using viridian and alizarin. The flower came from outside the window.

Bank Holiday Break

I usually paint everyday or almost that, even if I don’t post everyday. This weekend was the exception (since the end of September last year anyway). The last painting I did was last Friday morning and even at that I had to drag it out of myself. So I thought - right, time for a break!

It’s been both a quiet and a busy weekend sorting stuff out at home and in the garden and then we had guests to stay. Two gorgeous girls from BC in Canada. It was a bit touch and go today as to whether they would get their flight at all due to more ash from Iceland closing the airports. Thankfully they got out this afternoon so it’s back to the empty easel.

I have to say I do feel the better for the break and ready to go again.
